2012 is drawing to a close, and while it has been a beautiful year in many respects, it has been marred by too many tragedies and acts of violence.
The most obvious happened just recently in Connecticut, when a town and many innocent families had their lives turned upside down in a horrible tragedy.
The act sparked an instant reaction in the media, amongst friends and family, and even on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Sadly, the tragic nature of the event sparked many conversations focused on violence and hatred.
Let’s resolve for today and for the New Year to try to focus on peace, instead of the violence that is happening in the world. Remember, energy flows where attention goes. Even when you may be experiencing sorrow and anger, try to make a conscious effort to focus on peace and love, not negative emotions.
What does the world need now? The answer is very simple: peace, sweet peace.
Let’s spread peace and talk about it a lot! Let’s post stories of love on our Facebook pages and focus all our energy on what we want, instead of what we don’t want. That’s what we can do when tragedy strikes. We can try to shift the energy, and make the world a better place. Remember, when we turn on the light, the darkness goes away.
It won’t always be easy. When bad things happen around us, many of us find that it is hard to think about anything else. And in today’s media environment, where tragedies make the headlines, it can be nearly impossible to focus on anything else.
The next time a tragedy strikes, whether it is something personal in your own life, or whether it is a national story like the events in Connecticut, do your best to block out the negativity. Turn off the TV and log out of Facebook if you must. Take some time to rest and reflect on everything that you love about the world. Find the beauty that resonates in your soul. Dwell on the peace that you experience in your calmest moments. And visualize the beauty that would unfold in the world if peace and love replaced violence and hatred.
Once you have a strong picture in your mind and strong feelings of peace flowing through you, spread that feeling to others. Encourage your friends and family. Talk to them about the beauty in the world, not the tragedy. Visit Facebook and encourage your friends there to dwell on the positive, not the negative… even in the midst of tragedy.
What the world needs now is peace. And by dwelling on peace instead of violence and hatred, we can each do our part to usher peace into this world.
Have a wonderful peaceful New Year! xoxo

The Holiday season is in full swing, and shopping malls all across the country are filling up with gift shoppers. Giving gifts to one another is an important part of our holiday tradition, and many of you who are reading this will be giving gifts to friends or family members this season.
But this holiday season, I want you to think about giving something more than just a physical gift. There is nothing wrong with these traditional gifts of course, as they are a great way to show your appreciation and to make others smile. But I want you to think beyond the bright shiny toys, the designer clothes, and the latest electronics for a moment. I want you to look for opportunities to give of yourself this holiday season.
Look for opportunities to love. It may be a kind word to a cashier. It may be a hug or an encouraging word to a co-worker who is going through difficult times.
Look for opportunities to give your time. We have all seen the movies in which a rich businessman or businesswoman sends out an assistant to buy a birthday present for a family member or friend. If the recipient were to find out about it, the gift would be tarnished in their eyes, not because the actual gift is somehow worth less, but because the time and the energy that goes into picking out a gift is valuable. Time is among the most precious assets we have in this world. Look for ways to spend your time for the benefit of others.
Look for opportunities to give positive energy. The holiday season is hectic and stressful for many people. Sometimes the last thing we want to do is spend precious energy on someone else. But the gift of energy is priceless. Sometimes it is as simple as taking just 10 minutes of spending quality time with your spouse, your child, or a friend. Other times it may mean just sending positive energy to those who are struggling with something in their lives.
There will be plenty of opportunities for you and I to spend money on gifts this year, and again, there is nothing wrong with giving gifts. But, please don’t lose sight of the deeper, more powerful gift that you have to give—the gift of yourself. Giving of yourself, your love, your time, and your energy will truly make a difference to those around you.
Have a wonderful, peaceful holiday season. Many blessings to you!

There seems to be a lot of negativity in the world today. There is war. There is famine. There is disease. There is political unrest. Our souls long for peace, harmony, and love… but that’s not what many people experience. Many well-intentioned people seek to eliminate the sources of conflict that they face. This often takes the form of anti-war rallies and other activism. But sadly, fighting negativity with negativity doesn’t solve the problem.
Instead, love is the most powerful weapon. Love is more powerful than the forces of anger and negativity. Love can drive those negative feelings and emotions away and replace them with peace and harmony.
With love, we can wipe out hatred, violence, greed, and jealousy. Using negativity to fight negativity only continues the cycle. The only way to wash away the darkness is by shining the light of love upon it.
This is true of each one of us internally. We can’t resolve conflicts within ourselves with negativity. We need to replace it with love.
It’s also true of conflicts with others. Whether it is your neighbor, your colleague, or a family member, if you’re facing negativity, respond with love. Love will wash away the hostility and open the possibility of peace and harmony.
This is even true of world conflicts. We are in the middle of a divisive election season in the United States. And far worse troubles are occurring throughout the world, such as war, famine, and disease. Those conflicts will never be won with violence and negativity. Only love can wipe away decades of hatred and anger.
I want to challenge you to let love restore broken relationships and difficult situations. Make a commitment to yourself that when faced with negativity, you will respond with love. It isn’t just what you say, it’s how you think and feel. Anger and other negative emotions send out powerful vibrations into the world even when you don’t say or do anything. Instead of allowing yourself to be filled with this negativity, breathe in love like a breath of fresh air. This love will wipe away the anger and hostility you encounter and will renew relationships and refresh your soul.
We were made for love, not for anger, greed, and hatred. Love is your most powerful weapon, and love will help you discover a life of peace and harmony. If you embrace love and extend that love to others, you will be making the world a better place for you and for all those in your path.
Have a wonderful, peaceful day. Many blessings to you!

Would you like to know what the single, most useless question that you can ask is?
Here it is: “Why is this happening to me?”
Now let’s be honest… we all tend to think this way, especially when something bad has happened. But asking this question doesn’t help us find a solution; it only transforms our mindset to one of “victimhood.” And it leads us to accept our “fate,” rather than create our own beautiful reality.
If you take a moment to examine your own thought patterns, you will realize that you do indeed spend significant time asking “why?” As in… “Why did this have to happen to me today?” Or “Why did that person have to act so unfairly towards me?” Asking “why?” is useless because it doesn’t help us to take control of our lives. It positions us as victims at the mercy of external forces.
Instead, the question to ask is “what?” As in… “What’s next?” or “What do I DO about this?” This is so important, because it returns control to the individual. Rather than focusing on why something happened, if we are able to focus on what we will DO about it, we have the ability to shape our own reality! We have the ability to experience true peace, and to build our life the way we want it to be.
So what should you do about this? It all comes down to changing your focus. Don’t worry about what has happened in the past. Focus your energy and your thoughts on moving forwards. Focus on shaping your own reality.
I can tell you from personal experience, as well as from what I’ve observed in others, that you DO have the power to create the life you want for yourself. The challenge that you must overcome is the human tendency to focus on your circumstances instead of your response to the circumstances.
It won’t happen overnight, but if you commit yourself to shaping your reality instead of letting your circumstances dictate your life, you’ll be happier and more at peace than ever before. Try it! I know you can do it! xoxo
Many blessings to you!

Life is a journey.
Of course, you have heard this statement before—it’s something of a cliché. But take a moment to think about your own life. Have you “arrived” at your final destination? Have you achieved everything you’ve hoped to achieve? Traveled everywhere you’ve wanted to visit? Finished everything you’ve wanted to complete?
I’m willing to bet that the answer to all of these questions is “no”!
The truth is, no matter how much you achieve, accomplish, and acquire in life… there is always something more to be had. You’ll never “reach” your final destination—at least not in this life!
Why does all this matter?
Because far too many people put off what really matters in pursuit of the things they want to achieve. They tell themselves that they’ll worry about these things once they’ve reached their destination.
Things like family. Enjoying friends. Nurturing relationships. Forgiving enemies. Enjoying life. Experiencing peace. These things are put off… and most of the time, they are never re-discovered.
However, the key to obtaining real peace in our lives is to focus on enjoying the journey, taking the time to “smell the roses,” and focusing on what’s really important in life. This doesn’t mean that we have to give up on our dreams and our goals. It’s good to be ambitious; it’s great to want to accomplish great things in our life. The key, however, is simply finding the right balance, discovering a mindset that allows us to pursue big things without sacrificing the “little things” that make life worth living.
Here’s a little exercise for you. Take out a sheet of paper and jot down three of your biggest “life goals”. These should be significant milestones… such as “buying my dream home” or “finding my perfect soul mate, ” etc. Now, on a separate section of the sheet, write down 5-10 of the most important “little things” that you don’t want to forget about as you work towards these goals. Things such as: “time with my daughter/son,” “nurturing relationships with friends,” etc.
When you’ve finished this exercise, place this sheet of paper in a safe place. You will have created a visual reminder that will help you with one of life’s biggest challenges: enjoying the journey in life, instead of focusing obsessively on reaching your final destination.
Sure, it’s great to focus on destinations, but the most important thing is that you learn to be happy — right here and right now. I know this will be life changing for you, and also for all those in your life!
Many blessings to you!
